The first Rock Spectacular (2008) was held in Cooran. The event was put on by Gray Liddell to give some local bands an opportunity to perform original music, recreating a 60's, 70's rock concert with extravagant lighting effects. Gray believes that live music should involve all the senses, not just listening. There was a buzz and originality about seeing the bands in the 60's & 70's that has been lost in the pub scene where they have few lights, limited stage effects and cover bands. The show aspect of live original bands has been developed in the stadium concerts where ridiculous amounts of money are spent on stages and screens that are so far away you can hardly feel part of the show. The cost of these concerts excludes many people from attending. The theatre with its unique atmosphere is a great place to see a live band/show. Joining Gray's band Deep Sky and on that night were The Curves (formerly Revelation), Madame Firebird, Sammy Ray Jones and other young local upcoming musicians. Although the crowd was not huge, the night was a success aided by Mark Hemmitt's classic retro lighting effects.

The Curves are a band dedicated to bringing back the sounds of the 60''s with somewhat of a modern twist. After spending most of the year in a cave recording their debut EP which will be on sale at the show, they are reforming with a new lineup of talented musicians from Gympie to Maroochydore and heaps of new songs. The Curves are busting out of the cave and travelling on their new sound to arrive at Rock Spectacular, fresh and enthusiastic and ready as never to be heard for the first time with their new lineup.
Deep Sky is an originals band with a slightly diverse style but many songs are influenced by Oasis, grooving with a strong 60's early 70's rock flavor. The band is blues influenced as many of the bands of that era were and is recently discovering a more sensitive side with the inclusion of acoustic to some new songs. The lineup is youthful and enthusiastic on stage, the only older member is Gray who is very experienced in music and specializes in mentoring younger musicians. Deep Sky have developed since last year's Rock spectacular with new members Nash Johnston (The Names) -- guitar/keyboard & Ered Fox (Monkey Dog) -- bass and are poised to arrive on the Coast music scene later next year after the release of their first EP.
The names are a new three piece band from Pomona that literally burst onto the local music scene this year with a stunning performance at the King of the Mountain Festival. This band is quickly becoming a Coast favourite with their groovy sound and beat with the moves to match the music. They were runners up at the recent battle of the bands at the Kings Beach Tavern which earned them a spot at the prestigious Caloundra Music festival. Progressive rock with layers of intoxicating rhythm supplied by Coast virtuoso drummer -- Mitch Francis, bringing back the 70's rock sound of classic bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Pink Floyd.

Terry excels in multiple disciplines and David is also an accomplished artist. Simon Wells -- runner up world champion unicyclist at the last world championships will be premiering a new routine he is taking to NZ soon for the upcoming world championships.
