Actor and author William McInnes latest book The Making of Modern Australia charts our history by weaving “big ticket” historical items with plenty of the author’s fond recollections of growing up in the decades following the war.
It is also filled with stories from regular Australians, piecing together the celebrations, the sorrows and spirit of the last 50 years to give a national picture of our past and present.
“What the book does is show there is no such thing as a small life,” he says.
“To matter, you don’t have to have your face on a $5 note or have a statue in the park that pigeons crap on. Small lives are as operatic and dramatic and as fun and as adventurous and tragic as any great life. I think that’s important to remember.”
Enjoy nibbles and a drink with William as he reads from his latest book, his other best selling books and talks about his life as an author.
