Australian Idol's Daniel Mifsud to star at Carols on Kings
Last year it was the effervescent Bobby Flynn, this year it's the Idol with the 'daytime soapie star' good looks, Daniel Mifsud, who will wow audiences at the annual Carols on Kings celebrations next month.
Australian Idol finalist Daniel will join New York soul sensation Lisa Hunt for what has become one of the biggest carols celebrations across the Coast, at the Kings Beach amphitheatre on Sunday 23 December.
Caloundra City Acting Mayor Don Smith said this year's Carols celebrations, proudly supported by major sponsor Stockland, will also feature children's entertainment and a range of activities to kick off from 10am.
"Kings Beach will come alive with an old-fashioned beachside carnival surrounding the Kings Beach fountain, along with street performers, children's activities and food stalls," Cr Smith said.
Fundraising activities from this year's event will go towards Dicky Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, with members of the club assisting with the organisation.
The carols will get underway from 6pm and will include a host of local and guest performers, including a special visit from Santa and his elves.
For something a little bit different, this year the event will conclude with a colourful lantern parade featuring local youth.
More information about the event, including details about how to get involved in the lantern parade, will be available in coming weeks.
19 December 2007 Plan your visit to Coast's biggest Christmas carols event
Have a hassle free night at Carols on Kings on Sunday by leaving the car at home or parking in the CBD and hopping on one of the free shuttle buses.
Roads will be closed and shuttle buses in operation for safety reasons and to help ease traffic congestion at the biggest Christmas carols event on the Coast.
An impressive line-up of talent, including Australian Idol finalist Daniel Mifsud and New York soul sensation Lisa Hunt, is expected to attract about 8000 people to the traditional carols from 6pm. The event, which kicks off from 1pm, also includes children's rides and amusements, street entertainment, face painting, and a colourful lantern parade.
So leave the car at home or park your car and take one of the regular shuttle buses leaving from the bus interchange at Cooma Terrace, starting at 3pm.
And if you plan to be in the Kings Beach area on Sunday, please remember that the Burgess Street and Ormond Terrace/Esplanade headland carpark will be closed from midnight until 10.30pm. Disabled parking and drop off will be available at the Burgess Street carpark during the event.
Motorists and residents are also reminded that the roads around the Park will be closed from 10am until 10.30pm. This includes:
• Princess Lane between Albert Street and the Esplanade
• De Vene Avenue between Moreton Parade and Ormonde Terrace
• Ormond Terrace between the Esplanade and Edmund Street, Kings Beach.
Carols on Kings will be hosted by Hot 91's Sami.
The 2007 Carols on Kings is proudly sponsored by major sponsor Stockland and supported by Gillette Electrical, HOT FM, Sunshine Coast Daily, Seven Local News, Caloundra Scaffolding, and East Coast Traffic.
