The Gathering is a music and arts festival that celebrates community and is accessible to a wide and varied audience from all age groups.
The Gathering is a fully licenced all age community green field event (photo id req'd), put together and organised by local individuals from the Sunny Coast region.
This year the event will have two stages and run from 12pm until 10pm, with bands and performers from Melbourne such as Labjacd (9 piece latin funk), who blew everyone at the WFF away, The Hands from Sydney are back due to popular demand, Pty Ltd who are regulars at Good Vibrations and numerous other interstate festivals. Rob Longstaff, John Malcolm, My Ninja Lover who rocked the Boiler Room at the BDO and Stevie Mr Easybeats Wright himself just to name a few!
The director of the festival, Jason Castle has been at the heart of events on the coast for over 10 years and thought it was time that the region had a festival of it's own, (see the directors vision).
The festival now in it's fourth year wants to show all walks of life and people of any age group, that there is now an event on the coast that is catering to everyone, from the very laid back start with world and acoustic acts then moving on to the traditional opening by the Murries and progressing into the evening with some more live acts, coupled with street theatre and market stalls.
The core group without being negative believes that there is a serious lack of quality all age licenced community events on the Sunshine Coast and realised that someone had to do something about it. This is not to say the region is dull or boring in any way but to have such wonderful surroundings twenty four seven and so many families moving to the general area, everyone would have to agree that if anything due to urban sprawl we have lost way too many venues and need to show our children that it's still ok to hang with mum and dad and check out an event together!
The festival would also like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and welcome everyone to come witness the traditional opening by the Gubbi Gubbi people.
