Cr Johnston Prawns Around to Launch 2007 Mooloolaba Seafood Festival Cookbook Competition
Patron of 'Mooloolaba Catch, Seafood & Eat It!' Cookbook Cr Zrinka Johnston will today, 2nd July, officially launch the public competition to find the winning entries for this year's edition of the Mooloolaba Seafood Festival's gourmet cookbook.
As is fitting, Cr Johnston will launch the competition armed with the Sunshine Coast's best local-caught seafood on one of the wharves in Mooloolaba, the home to trawlers and fishing vessels responsible for harvesting some of the world's most renowned seafood.
President of the Mooloolaba Seafood Festival, Trudy Atkinson, said the 2007 cookbook is the second of five limited-edition, coffee-table cookbooks showcasing local seafood and recipes.
"We had an overwhelming response to the competition last year and are encouraging everyone to dig out their favourite seafood recipes, or one handed down through the generations, and stories of local people who catch or enjoy local seafood and send them in - but make sure the recipes use only local seafood," Trudy said.
The competition runs until 27th July, after which a team of chefs cook, test and judge the recipes. The entrants who submit the three highest scoring recipes will receive prizes to the value of $70, a copy of the book and an invitation to be an honoured guest at the invitation-only VIP showcase dinner in August. The top 12 recipes will be published in the cookbook and receive a copy to show-off to family and friends.
Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will help the Mooloolaba Seafood Festival raise much-needed funds for the Mooloolaba Coastguard and the National Heart Foundation.
Entries must be accompanied by a signed entry form available at www.seafoodfestival.com.au. The published limited-edition cookbooks will be launched and available for sale at the 2007 Mooloolaba Seafood Festival on 30th September.
