With over 50 entries this year, Noosa Arts Theatre has chosen the top three plays to be performed in the One Act Play Festival from 12 to 21 April.
For those who like detective mysteries and comedy, this is your night.
Hugh O'Brien was winner of the One Act Play Festival in 2005 with Love or Nearest Offer about a dating agency. Last year, his hilarious Love to Declare explored Internet dating. This year with Love and Other Flushes it's marriage counseling and how plumbing skills can help.
Winning author for 2006, Cerise de Gelder delves again into the world of passion, murder and deceit in her new play Dead and Buried. Her clever twists of plot are again sprinkled with gems of humour.
John Cundill's Twang will have you thinking for weeks about the rights and wrongs of a veteran policeman who has his own take on how the law should deliver justice. Some wonderful characters and some lovely subtle humour in this play.
And what an array of acting talent, with three actors, Peter Browne, Leona Kirby and Shane Ross winning best support actor awards in the recent STAR awards and stars like Matt Warren, Performer of the Year in 2003 and Ian Mackellar who won a best director award for The Gingerbread Lady and who amazed audience as Emcee in Cabaret. Kathryn McTaggert and Des Coroy, two of the stars of Take a Chance on Me and the Odd Couple grace the stage again.
Directors Viv Somers, John McMahon and Kerrin Walder bring an impressive array of theatre skills to the task with many awards to their names.
Audiences can vote for their favourite play. The Audience's Choice will receive the Nancy Cato Award sponsored by Bron Norman and Maverick Musicals. Maverick Musicals publishes the winning play each year
