From 40 to 1 -- art prize winner announced at official opening
Three local artists are amongst a field of 40 finalists from around the country vying for the top award for the 2009 Sunshine Coast Art Prize (SCAP) to be announced on Thursday 27 August.
Community Policy and Programs Portfolio holder Cr Jenny McKay will announce the winner of this year's prize, which attracted over 400 entries nationwide, now on display at Caloundra Regional Art Gallery.
SCAP is a national contemporary painting and 2D art prize presented by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
This year's judge, acclaimed gallery director and philanthropist Philip Bacon, had the difficult task of whittling down the list of 400 finalists to one winner that will be announced on Thursday.
Local artists in the running for the prize include Peter Hudson from Maleny, Joanne Currie Nalingu of Caloundra and Lisa Lee of Tewantin.
The winner will receive a $20,000 prize which includes cash and an artists-in-residency prize in Maleny.
The finalists' entries are currently on display at a special exhibition at Caloundra Regional Art Gallery running until 4 October. The gallery is open from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.
