The 2011 Noosa Jazz Festival will celebrate 19 years bringing the cream of Australian and international Jazz talent to the beautiful resort town of Noosa Heads, the event now recognized as one of Australia’s most enduring Jazz Festivals. Our theme will be ‘Jazz Party’, with a bevy of Australia’s iconic musicians drawing together in a spontaneous combustion of traditional jazz within the Bicentennial Hall, followed by a stream of swing, modern, funk and blues bellowing along Hastings Street and in the Festival Village.
In recent years, performances from Cat Empire, Kate Noonan, Paul Grabowski, and our more traditional artists, Peter Gaudion and Bob Barnard give the Festival it’s amazing diversification.
Last year saw us branch out and tour internationally acclaimed artists, Warren Vache (USA), and Barb Jungr (UK), who were well received by our audiences.
This year we welcome back those Australian artists who are the ‘back bone’ of the Australian jazz scene, Bob Barnard, Allan Browne, Dan Barnett, Geoff Bull and George Golla, just to name a few.
Intimacy will be our focus for 2011 and recreating those smoky jazz room experiences in one of Australia’s most desirable beach locations.
Noosa is blessed with pristine beaches, beautiful national parkland and a magnificent river, but when the jazz festival comes to town, jazz lovers can enjoy one of the most unique holidays imaginable. Noosa offers Jazz lovers a magical environment complimented by cool music and sumptuous food.
The festival was started by Melbourne jazz icon Frank Johnson, together with Richard Stevens, who understood that in the competitive Tourism world, the hotels and restaurants would benefit from a multiple day celebration of Jazz. Created to celebrate the start of Spring, the Noosa Jazz Festival plays an important role in attracting tourists to the region who are looking for an escape from the winter climate.
From humble beginnings of one restaurant, the festival today boasts over 90 performances in multiple venues along the infamous Hastings Street strip, a large purpose built jazz stage in Noosa Woods overlooking the beautiful Noosa River, Bicentennial Hall, which is the home of the Noosa Jazz Club and venues all the way to Noosaville come alive to the great sound of jazz music every year.
Today, the festival has grown from a community event to a sophisticated celebration of jazz which is a respected festival attracting thousand’s of jazz lovers to South East Queensland.
All Noosa visitors and local residents are invited to attend the numerous open-air performances, historical jazz feature-shows and daily free gigs to experience the huge variety of jazz our musicians have to offer. So come down and enjoy some simply great jazz in these stunning Noosa surrounds from 1st – 4th September 2011.
