For 32 years the Sunshine Coast has hosted the biggest environmental Festival in south-east Queensland. Attracting over 7,000 visitors in one day, the Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival is a free family fun day with an important message.
“With our partners, Sunshine Coast Council, University of Sunshine Coast and Sunshine Coast TAFE; SCEC is once again organising the Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival. There are some cutting edge and quirky exhibits this year from all over the world,’ says Matt Dineen, Festival Coordinator, Sunshine Coast Environment Council.
There are seven themed areas where exhibitors will promote sustainable products and services. Visitors are encouraged to ‘see, hear and do’ this year, so each area will also have games, competitions and speakers.
As people move through the event, they will have the chance to eat away at a giant green consumer footprint that represents our current lifestyle consumption. Each person can minimise the footprint by participating in the event and making some informed choices around their behavioural choices.
“We’re currently looking for people who are passionate about sustainability and our environment to come along and help out. There’s plenty of opportunity to volunteer on the day or help out prior to the event on 3rd June 2012.”
‘We need the help of our Sunshine Coast community to make this event a success, so are calling for residents to contact us and volunteer. Just go to http://www.scec.org.au/wed.html and see the range of opportunities available,’ says Matt. ‘The more people who are active in helping to protect this special part of the world, the better life will be for all of us.’
