21st Century Kids on Tour this summer at Sunshine Coast galleries

The Gallery of Modern Art's (GoMA) major summer exhibition '21st Century: Art in the First Decade' is coming to the Sunshine Coast on Saturday 15 January 2011.
Children and families can enjoy a day of free activities as part of the 21st Century Kids Summer Festival on Tour at the Noosa and Caloundra regional galleries.
For regular Caloundra Regional Gallery visitors, it is important to note the 21st Century Kids Summer Festival on Tour will form part of Kids Club in January, and will take place on Saturday 15 January from 10.30am to 2.30pm -- not the usual first Saturday of the month.
Queensland Art Gallery director Tony Ellwood said regional galleries and art centres around Queensland would host the activities simultaneously with the Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane as part of the 21st Century Kids Summer Festival.
"21st Century Kids Summer Festival on Tour will feature ten different drawing, craft and multimedia activities and short films developed by leading international artists," he said.
"Over forty regional art galleries, schools, cultural centres and other venues will take part, including those in Bundaberg, Caloundra, Cooktown, Gladstone, Gympie, Hervey Bay, Mackay, Miles, Mundubbera, Noosa, Rockhampton, Strathpine, Townsville, Bribie Island and the Gold Coast.
"Remote Indigenous communities in Aurukun, Coen and Wujal Wujal will participate, as will families from Thursday Island and Darnley Island in the Torres Strait.
"Additionally, the tour will come to the Mater Children's Hospital and Royal Brisbane Children's Hospital.
"21st Century Kids Summer Festival on Tour features interactive activities for children and families created by artists such as Fiona Hall (Australia), Bharti Kher (India), Campbell Patterson (New Zealand), Rirkrit Tiravanija (Thailand) and Jorge Mndez Blake (Mexico). The projects have been developed to offer children and families insights into contemporary art in the first decade of the new millennium," Mr Ellwood said.
The tour takes place at Noosa Regional Gallery from 11am to 3pm and at Caloundra Regional Gallery (as part of Kids Club) from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Saturday 15 January 2011 and coincides with the 21st Century Kids Summer Festival at GoMA in Brisbane, from January 13 to 23.
'21st Century: Art in the First Decade' will be on at GoMA from 18 December 2010 to 26 April 2011, featuring work from over 140 artists from 42 countries.
