Peter Slipper hosts 8th annual Fisher Seniors' Forum
The 8th annual Fisher Seniors' Forum will be held at Lake Kawana Community Centre on Friday June 13, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
Member for Fisher Peter Slipper said attendees at the 8th annual Fisher Seniors' Forum & Expo will this year break into groups to discuss various issues affecting seniors and to make suggestions for improvements.
The event will be held tomorrow (June 13) at the Lake Kawana Community Centre. This year's topic is 'Seniors in the Community'.
"The issue of seniors being involved in their community is growing in importance as Australia experiences an ageing population and we aim for quality of life for all Australians," Mr Slipper said.
Guest speakers at the forum are Ms Val French, founder of the Older People Speak Out organisation, and Ms Kate Coupe, Regional Manager for Financial Planning (Qld), for St George Bank.
Those who attend the Fisher Seniors' Forum & Expo will receive a range of free information, such as relevant government publications, shopping list notebook and a fridge magnet. Also, McDonalds at Maroochydore has donated vouchers and Manawee Nursery in Buderim is supplying free samples of products to attendees.
The Seniors' Expo that accompanies the forum will this year feature 15 exhibitors, each on hand to give helpful free advice on a range of products and services of interest to seniors.
"Those who have attended past forums have commented that having so many exhibitors in the one location makes it easy to gather a range of information in the one afternoon - it can save a lot of time," Mr Slipper said.
The Fisher Seniors' Forum and Expo was launched by Mr Slipper in 2001 to provide senior residents of the region with friendly and informal access to free information about issues that affect them.
