Celebrating Peace at Noosa Library during September 22/08/2006
UNESCO Peace Prize winner, Professor Toh Swee-Hin, will lead a panel of renowned speakers at Noosa Library at 6.00 pm on Saturday, September 2nd, to celebrate the upcoming International Day of Peace.
Professor Toh was awarded the UNESCO Prize in 2000 for his work in peace education around the world but above all in Mindanao, Philippines, a site of longstanding armed, social and cultural conflicts.
He will be joined by Narayan Gopalkrishnan, Lecturer in Social and Community Studies at the Sunshine Coast University and Mike Higgins, journalist and United Nations Media Peace Prize recipient.
The three speakers will present their perspectives on peace as part of the launch of the Gandhi King Ikeda Exhibition in foyer of the Library at Wallace Park, Noosaville.
The international exhibition "A legacy of building peace" focuses on the humanistic endeavour and pursuits of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr and Daisaku Ikeda and their messages of peace, compassion and the desire to create global unity.
The launch will commence at 6:00p.m. and music will be provided by local musical group, "The Nonseriouso". Attendance is free of charge but should be confirmed by telephoning Noosa Library on 5442 4411.
