The Quintessential String Quartet is made up of four young, energetic, and enthusiastic musicians who are passionate about music.
Formed in 2003 as part of the Chamber Music program at the University of Queensland, the Quintessentials have performed locally and internationally in a variety of contexts, including concerts, competitions, and benefits for charities.
In 2004 and 2005, the Quintessentials were flown to Kuala Lumpur to play at the HELP University College annual charity dinner, which was a fantastic experience for all the players. They have performed live on Malaysian television, at dinner concerts and the DBKL Auditorium. They have an eclectic repertoire, including Mozart, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Schostakovich, Brahms and the Beatles!
Also, the Quintessentials are great supporters of local music: KL Sojourn, by Philip Bracanin, (Head of the School of Music at the University of Queensland), was written for and premiered by this energetic group. They are frequent performers at Customs House in Brisbane, have been heard on 4MBS Classic FM and won the Musica Viva 4MBS Syd Paige Memorial Chamber Music Prize in both 2004 and 2005.
