Sunshine Coast exhibits Queensland’s top landscape designs
Various Artists’ gallery will be showcasing Queensland’s finest in Landscape Architecture in a free public exhibition this week.
In a celebration of the contribution that Landscape Architects make to our communities, the Gallery will display outstanding work as part of the 2013 AILA Queensland State Awards held by the peak industry body, the Australian Institute for Landscape Architects (AILA).
The AILA Queensland Executive will host a special preview launch evening on 9 May to unveil the 2013 award submissions to industry members and the general public.
The Gallery will continue to remain open to the general public on Friday 10 May before the exhibition continues to make it’s way to Northern Queensland for further public viewings.
The AILA Queensland State President, Andrea Ryan, is encouraging locals to visit the exhibition to discover the creative and diverse profession of Landscape Architecture, while they have the chance.
“The exhibition offers a rare insight into the inner workings of contemporary Australian Landscape Architecture,” Ms. Ryan said.
“There is so much to learn about the contributions made to the conservation and sustainability of our environment and communities through landscape design.”
Hailed as the premier awards for landscape architects, the biennial AILA Queensland State Awards recognise outstanding work in the field.
“The awards encompass six different landscape architecture categories, which include Design, Planning, Land Management, Research and Communication, Urban Design, as well as the Future Leader’s Award,” Ms. Ryan explained.
To be considered for one of these prestigious awards, Landscape Architects across Queensland were invited to submit completed projects that meet a strict criterion set by the AILA.
A panel of leading affiliated professionals will then judge all submissions and announce the winners at an award ceremony to be held 24 May 2013.
Vee Design’s Landscape Architecture Associate, Lauren Walsh, understands the significance of winning an AILA award having been a part of a team, which took home a Queensland Design Award in 2011 for the Robelle Domain Parklands.
“The AILA awards are the pinnacle achievement for industry professionals, so it was such an honour to be recognised by our peers,” Ms. Walsh said.
“I’m really excited to see this year’s submissions at The Various Artists exhibition and it’s a great forum for the AILA to showcase what Landscape Architects do,” Ms. Walsh commented.
Ms. Ryan agrees and adds that the public might be pleasantly surprised by the extent of contributions that the industry makes to general community.
“We will have some fantastic work on display this year and I think the public will be captivated by how much Landscape Architecture influences our daily lives,” Ms. Ryan said.
A total of 15 companies have submitted projects, including AECOM, Andrew Green, Cardno S.P.L.A.T, Form Landscape Architects, GHD, Guymer Baily Landscape, Hassell, JFP Urbane Consultants, Lat27, Place Design Group, RPS Australia East, Tract, Vee Design and Wilson Architects.
The AILA is the peak national organisation representing and harnessing the collective interests of the Australian Landscape Architecture profession, and oversees the professional recognition of Registered Landscape Architects.
