Andy Warhol Summer Festival comes to Caloundra
The Queensland Art Gallery's Andy Warhol Summer Festival will be celebrated simultaneously at Caloundra Regional Art Gallery with a day of free kids' activities this weekend - Saturday January 19.
The Festival coincides with the 11-day Andy Warhol Summer Festival at Brisbane's Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art from January 18 to 28.
Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said local residents would be able to enjoy a selection of Andy Warhol Summer Festival activities without leaving town.
"Children aged 3 to 12 years will be invited to explore Andy Warhol's interests, techniques and styles through a range of activities which allow local children to find out more about this famous artist," Cr Aldous said.
Minister for the Arts, Rod Welford said The Andy Warhol Summer Festival was an important opportunity for regional Queensland families to enjoy the Gallery's acclaimed programs for children.
"I am very proud of the Queensland Art Gallery's exhibition and program services to regional Queensland, which are the most ambitious and comprehensive of any state gallery in the country."
The Festival will be presented simultaneously at up to 25 regional centres, including Cairns, Bundaberg, Mackay, Miles, Childers, Townsville, Redcliffe, Rockhampton, Gatton, Gympie, Gladstone, Hervey Bay, Noosa, Stanthorpe and Warwick, and several Indigenous communities.
The 'Andy Warhol' exhibition is Australia's first major Warhol retrospective and one of the most comprehensive ever compiled, with more than 300 artworks.
