An exhibition of ceramics by award-winning graduates
of the Cooloola Sunshine Institute of TAFE
2 February - 22 February 2006
Opening Sunday, 5 February 2pm
Speaker Rowley Drysdale
This exhibition brings together a group of award-winning ceramic artists who have recently graduated with the Advanced Diploma of Ceramics from the Cooloola Sunshine Institute of Tafe in Tewantin.. Work by members of this group has been selected for inclusion in the November 2005 edition of The Australian Journal of Ceramics and in exhibitions at Fusions Gallery, Brisbane and the 'Floating Land' exhibition, Noosa.
The group demonstrates great diversity of style and form in this exhibition, which includes large sculptural forms and vessels both wheel-thrown and hand built. The collection combines work sympathetic to traditional aesthetics with work that is more post-modern in style and represents an attempt to bring a fresh, contemporary approach to the medium. In keeping with such an eclectic approach to the genre, techniques, clays and firings are equally diverse; recycled, locally found and commercial clays fired in wood, gas and electric kilns and in pits have all been used to great effect by the artists some of whom have incorporated other materials such as cotton, fibre optic cables and copper wire.
