Free Maryborough sports workshop for athlete recovery
Maryborough sports people and athletes will get to tap into a wealth of knowledge at the Bligh Government's Athlete Recovery Workshop on Wednesday, 10th November.
Sport Minister Phil Reeves said the workshop will cover various topics including nutrition, how to monitor recovery, the importance of sleep and how much you need, and the detrimental effects of fat and alcohol.
"The sports community will also get the opportunity to discuss issues currently facing the industry," Mr Reeves said.
"Sports participants, coaches, administrators, instructors and volunteers will find this a rewarding experience and will walk away from the workshop with a wealth of knowledge."
Mr Reeves said the Bligh Government is committed to developing more opportunities for people to get involved in sport and recreation.
"Sport plays an important role in promoting healthy, active communities and it's crucial we provide opportunities for people to stay involved in sport for the long-term," he said.
"Under our Toward Q2: Tomorrow's Queensland initiative, we want to help Queenslanders become Australia's healthiest people by reducing obesity levels by one third by 2020.
"We've made the tough economic decisions to ensure we can continue to support local sport and recreation.
"Because of the strong leadership of the Bligh Government we are able to invest more in sport and recreation than any other state in the country."
