Pop into the Atrium Gallery on Saturday 28th June between 10am – 3pm for our next fun and fabulous Open Day and meet and greet this month's featured artists and more! Artists will be demonstrating their wide and varied talents and the kitchen will be open serving lovely scones, muffins, tea and coffee. Open Days are held on the 4th Saturday of every month.
The Atrium is open 7 days 10am – 4pm. This month's featured Artists:
Sue Dingle: Twelve years ago Sue Dingle had not put brush to canvas. Her passion for creating art was sparked by attending a silk painting class with her daughter. The interest in silk painting did not last but her passion for art began to grow. At that time Sue was living in North Queensland and attended art classes through TAFE and with local artists. Portraiture (in graphite, charcoal, pastel) and landscapes (in oil) became favourites. She soon won a couple of local art prizes, and sold a number of her pieces. Four years ago Sue moved to the Sunshine Coast and joined the Buderim Craft Cottage Multi Mixed Media group and her art is now mostly acrylic. Sue says that while her paintings have evolved over this time, the one enduring feature is that she loves to feel that she could step into the painting and find a special place of peace. A place to be.
Elizabeth Shirley: Elizabeth started drawing and painting as a child and returned to art & craft as an adult, studying drawing and oil painting at the Workshop Arts Centre, Willoughby. Upon retirement at Buderim after a busy professional career she was able to develop her interest in art. Elizabeth has a major interest in textile art, working mainly with silk and wool and with dyes on silk to create interesting clothing and art works. She also enjoys working with inks, watercolour and acrylic. Inspiration is drawn from her surroundings, travel, plants, and birds and by the use of colour and texture. Artworks are often developed from Elizabeth's photography and an appreciation of colour in our natural environment. She is a member of Buderim Craft Cottage, the Flying Arts School and the Australian Textile & Surface Design Association. Elizabeth's textile art has been exhibited in Sydney, Brisbane & Pittsburgh USA as well as locally.
