Autumn walk to highlight one of Noosa's 'hidden gems'
Noosa Council in partnership with the Friends of the Noosa Botanic Gardens invites residents to the Autumn Seasonal Walk this Sunday, 29 May.
"The Noosa Botanic Gardens is one of Noosa Shire's hidden gems, and word is spreading with the latest figures indicating more than 1000 people are visiting the gardens each week," says Parks and Natural Areas Coordinator Sara Cooke.
Sunday's walk, from 9-10am, is part of a wider effort celebrating botanic gardens throughout Australia and New Zealand and the many benefits they bring to communities.
"These benefits are not only for the pleasure of millions of visitors but botanic gardens play a vital role in plant research, conservation, education and preserving our natural treasures," Ms Cooke said.
The Autumn Seasonal walk is a great way to view and learn about Noosa Botanic Gardens and their autumn highlights.
"Come and see our beautifully shaped elephant apple trees with fruit as large as baseballs and flowers as delicate as star Jasmine blooms. Foliage of all hues draws the eye to the layers and levels of our garden plantings," Ms Cooke said.
"Council Parks and Natural Areas staff recently built an authentic heritage post and rail fence framing our hoop pine which was a feature near the original homestead on the site."
Friends of the Botanic Gardens will lead the tour, sharing their years of knowledge and passion for the Shire's natural wonders.
"This partnership with Noosa Shire Council and the Friends is a fantastic example of 'Volunteerism' and highlights the many dedicated and skilled volunteers we have across the Shire," Ms Cooke said.
"Take your hat, put on your sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes to join us at Noosa Botanic Gardens, Lake Macdonald Drive, Cooroy from 9am, Sunday, 29 May."
