If you love your music loud and fast, then put Saturday 17 February in your diary when Melbourne's post-punk outfit Bench Press hit The Bunker at The Imperial Hotel, supported by Goon On The Rocks + The Royal Artillery.
BENCH PRESS has not been together as long as the easy confidence they project. Only since March 2016 have Bench Press been doing the live thing, back when they commanded only twenty minutes of material to bash out. Since then, guitarist Morgan Griffiths, bassist Lewis Waite and drummer Jordan Hicks have achieved perfect easygoing unity, resulting in their dynamic, to-the-point post-punk, propelled by Jack Stavrakis's vocals venting on the frustrations of modern life. Snarling, angular and loud, Bench Press invoke the old while pushing something that feels very new.
GOON ON THE ROCKS is a four piece indie ska/punk band from deep within Brisbane's seedy underbelly. High energy and full of grunt with an old-school punk vibe.
THE ROYAL ARTILLERY bring a big sound to the table with deeply authentic blues guitar bolstered by heavy grooves reminiscent of 90’s riff rock. With an exciting sound and stimulating live show, The Royal Artillery have cemented themselves as a headline act in Brisbane’s rock scene and are forging a path nationally with national radio play and a start on the festival circuit. Quite simply, if you dig Hendrix-laced music, this band needs your attention.
