Big Bob to play the blues on Thursday night
Elections bring people together in strange ways - and so it is with musicians.
Tomorrow evening, some of the coast's finest musicians will gather at "The J" in Noosa Junction to do their part in supporting Bob Abbot. Known to most for his leadership skills and uncomplicated style, Bob is also a passionate musician and can often be found in the company of a variety of blues artists giving his favourite harmonica a blast.
The idea of holding a concert and supporting Bob in his bid to become the inaugural mayor of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council came a few weeks ago. Local singer/songwriters Kate Gibson and Tony Byrne approached Bob and before he knew it, Bob had his very own custom-made concert. Renowned guitarist Phil Emmanuel agreed to lend his talents to the extravaganza and was soon followed by rock 'n' roll prodigy Kevin Barker and the Beagle Boys, the gifted Doc Span and the list goes on….
"I'm touched that so many coast artists are willing to give their time and talents tomorrow night. Many of them are going out of the way from their busy performing schedules to be there" Bob said.
"I've got a bit of history with some of these guys and I'm looking forward to listening as much as I am performing. There'll be blues, rock, acoustic and even a bit of Irish courtesy of Alan Kelly!" Bob added.
Once the concert planning got underway, it seemed only appropriate to put a campaign song together as well. So Kate Gibson and Tony Byrne put some ideas together and came up with "Big Bob is Cool".
Bob joined them in studio to add the harmonica accompaniment and the song was launched on Bob's website today. Whilst the song hasn't been written to front any subsequent campaign advertising, it's made for a bit of fun away from the hurly burly of the campaign trail. Not only has the song enjoyed great response since its posting, but a live rendition from Kate, Tony and Bob will start proceedings off tomorrow night.
Those choosing to join the toe tapping at "The J" from 7.00pm will be asked to provide a gold coin donation on entry. You can listen to "Big Bob is Cool" by going to Bob Abbot's website, bigbob.com.au and click on the relative button.
