Australia’s most spectacular rainforest run to debut – 8-9 November

The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk is being opened up for the first time for running events, with Run Queensland (www.runqueensland.com) securing permits to hold the Blackall 100 on the weekend of 8 & 9 November.

The Blackall 100 (www.blackall100.com) is expected to draw up to 1000 participants from all levels of competitiveness to take part in 50km and 100km runs along The Hinterland Great Walk and its surrounds.

The spectacular rainforest scenery will make for one of Australia’s most anticipated running events, with the trails ideally suited for both experienced runners and fun-runners.

The Blackall 100 will be hosted at the Mapleton campus of the Queensland Conference and Camping Centre (QCCC), which offers outdoor education facilities and experiences in the heart of Sunshine Coast’s Blackall Range.

“Securing permits to host the event in the pristine Sunshine Coast hinterland is a real coup for Run Queensland, and with the villages of Mapleton, Montville and Maleny offering such attractive tourism opportunities, we expect families from all over Australia to come and be part of this inaugural event,” said Alun Davies, Run Queensland’s Co-Director, Events & Marketing.

“The team has put a huge amount of effort into securing The Blackall 100 and it will provide a great opportunity for the Sunshine Coast to showcase its Hinterland region, its natural beauty, great food and produce, and the excellent range of accommodation.”

Co-director of Events & Marketing, Brett Standring, added: “While the 100km and 50km races will be challenging, we will ensure that running conditions will be safe and controlled, so that it will suit experienced runners, as well as those who just want a unique opportunity to run along some of the most picturesque trail in Australia.”

The acquisition of the event has been supported by the Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing (NPRSR), Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services (QPWS), Sunshine Coast Destination, The Australian Ultra Runners Association (AURA), Sunshine Coast Council, Women’s Running Australia and Rebel Sports Maroochydore
