IT'S ON AGAIN!! Rotary Noosa Daybreak are again holding their eagerly awaited BOOKFEST NOOSA over the weekend commencing Friday, May1. This is the biggest book sale held on the Sunshine Coast, and records look set to be broken again this year. The big news is that, after many years, the venue for BOOKFEST NOOSA will change from Bicentennial Hall to the significantly larger Noosa Leisure Centre, in Wallace Drive, just off Eumundi Road in Noosaville. Some things won't change, however.
There will be still be a huge array of books to choose from, a barbeque will still operate over the weekend, and most importantly, all funds raised will still benefit charities whose work is vital in the arenas in which they operate. Prices remain the same this year, so everyone can be assured of a bargain. Many BOOKFEST NOOSA regulars return the books they bought last year, and invest in a whole new library to tide them over for the following year.
The ever popular Children's Corner will again be in operation, and there will be the opportunity to win a great prize from the annual Raffle. This year, our major beneficiaries include Smart Pups, a Pomona based not-for-profit organisation that specialises in training assistance dogs for special needs children. The cost to train a Smart Pup is similar to that of a guide dog for the blind, and the waiting list for these pups is growing. For more information, check www.smartpups.org.au Funds will also be allocated to a Rotary project to assist with the construction of water supply and sanitary installations in remote areas of the Solomon Islands.
The living conditions of many of the islanders in the outlying areas of the Solomons is extremely primitive, with basic medical care often physically beyond the reach of many people. Provision of these basic facilities can prevent the spread of preventable and potentially fatal illnesses. Rotary Noosa Daybreak is often called upon during the course of the year to assist many worthwhile local charities and causes, so a small proportion of the proceeds will be held in reserve to assist local charities on an as-required basis.
