Breakfast with the birds
Bird enthusiasts can make an early leap into spring this month, with Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve's annual Breakfast with the Birds to kick off on Sunday August 21.
Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said the informative morning, which includes a guided interpretive bird walk followed by a hot breakfast, has been so popular in the past organisers are hoping to make it a monthly occurrence throughout spring and summer.
"The reserve's subtropical rainforest offers visitors a great opportunity to see some of Queensland's most stunning bird species, while also showcasing this fantastic conservation area," Cr Aldous said.
Naturalist Gail Hill, from Bimbimbie Ornithological Services, will not only point out the many bird species, but will also introduce people to bird behaviour.
The walks, described as investigative because they focus on bird interactions, will showcase the rich diversity of resident species, which are expected to encourage lively discussion.
Each participant will receive notes on behaviour watching, produced by Gail, which will be referred to throughout the walk.
The walk starts at 8am, with an optional hot breakfast served at 10am. Numbers are limited and bookings are essential.
The bird walk is $15, with a portion to be returned to the reserve and breakfast is $12.
