Brendan Cowell - Swapping stage for page
Screenwriter, actor and playwright Brendan Cowell says it took three years for him to complete How It Feels, his debut novel on contemporary Australian life and the suburban Aussie male which has been described as “a blazing comet, raw, confronting, extremely explicit and wildly funny.”
“I experienced, in no particular order, insomnia, panic attacks and heavy drinking. At one point I even phoned my bank manager to get the money to pay back the advance.”
By the time the book was published he had turned full circle. “I hated it in the beginning but now it is like my child. I look at it with the adoring eyes of a father. I am so proud of it.”
Enjoy nibbles and a drink with this hugely successful young actor who has swapped stage for page as he reads extracts from How It Feels, much of which he admits is taken from his own life.
