A significant village centre parkland in Buderim that provides much needed open space areas while visually enhancing and improving the functionality of the precinct.

This is on the cards for the public open space areas on Lindsay Road between the swimming pool and Martins Creek – and the community is invited to have its say on the Preliminary Buderim Central Parklands Landscape Concept Plan being prepared by Sunshine Coast Council.

Come along to the “Meet us in the Park” community engagement event on the Corner Burnett Street and Lindsay Road on Saturday 27 August 2011 between 9am to noon to view the draft concept plan and provide feedback in person.

Alternatively, you can review the preliminary concept plan on council’s website and email your comments to ispmb@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.

Division 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford said the landscape concept plan would provide a long term framework for the detailed design, construction and refurbishment of key parkland areas and a process of staged implementation over future years, subject to funding.

“Delivering this plan will provide Buderim’s village centre with much needed open space and facilities,” he said.

“It will also enhance the visual appearance of the area and improve the functionality of existing open spaces.

“Before anything gets built however, we need your input.  The “Meet us in the Park” event is an opportunity for you to help shape what will be a terrific development for Buderim so please come along and have your say.”

The plan – although still in the preliminary stages – aims to explore opportunities to expand the existing park areas to form a significant village centre parkland and includes:

  • Beautification of the open space in front of the aquatic centre
  • Shade tree planting and park seating
  • New relocated public amenities (toilet) building
  • Locomotive display for the recently restored Krauss Engine – the original engine that powered the Buderim to Palmwoods tramway between 1915 and 1935
  • Passive seating and viewing area on Lindsay Road overlooking Martins Creek
  • Restoration work including the removal of environmental weed species and creek bank stabilisation.
