For 40 years now, Buderim Craft Cottage has been a popular centre for art and craft in our community. During that time it has grown from a few artists working in the small cottage on the original site to the arts complex and Atrium Gallery it has become today.
From May 25 to June 24 the Cottage will be celebrating its 40 years as a centre with gallery shows and displays of work that are open for all to enjoy.
Many of our members have been working toward this event. Over a year ago a theme was set and individuals and groups have prepared artworks to embrace this theme. The theme - "Growth and Community" - was chosen as best representing the spirit and ethos of the complex and the interrelationship between Cottage artists and their Buderim Community. Art works include traditional paintings as well as mixed-media wall pieces. There are textile works, jewellery, sculptures and examples from groups as diverse as the calligraphers and the life sketching class.
Our celebrations commence with a curated exhibition of work at the Sunshine Coast Gallery, University of the Sunshine Coast, from 25 May to 9 June. This will showcase the excellence of the quality work produced by our members. This will be followed by an Open House display of individual groups demonstrating and working within the Cottage itself from June 19-24th.
Everyone is invited to come along and join the celebrations. If you are interested in participating in any art or craft group, the Open House display will allow you an opportunity to join one of the thirteen different groups covering a wide range of art and craft.
