Organisers of the initial Buderim Men's Shed inaugural public meeting are delighted with the response.

Steering Committee Chairman, Mr Rick Beasley from Buderim Rotary said that the organising committee were heartened with the strong response.

"Not only were there 50 people at the meeting, but the enthusiasm of those present have given the committee fresh impetus to continue to press for the establishment of a shed. There is a very obvious need for this type of structure".

The Men's Shed movement is still relatively new to Queensland although there are over 450 sheds around Australia. The aim is provide a venue for men who have time on their hands who would like to socialise, learn, create, or return something to the community.

Buderim Rotary Club is sponsoring the establishment of a shed for the Buderim area. The Club believes that it will provide an invaluable service to the area.

The organising committee are holding discussions with local Sunshine Coast Councillors in an endeavour to locate a suitable site on which to establish a Buderim Shed.

The next meeting will be held at St Mark's Hall, Buderim at 12.30pm on Monday 13th December. The meeting will hear from local councillors, Christian Dickson and Ted Hungerford regarding possible sites.

The meeting will conclude with an informal BBQ and a cold drink.

Several committee members recently visited an operating Men's Shed at Kenmore in Brisbane. It was exciting to see this operation with 80 members and an active program. The Chairman of this group will attend the Buderim meeting with some insights into the essentials of a Men's Shed.

Any residents of the Buderim area are invited to attend the upcoming meeting.
