Recipients of 2017 Undergraduate Bursaries.

Julie Reeves - in her 2nd year of a Bachelor of Environmental Management with a GPA of 7. She is currently studying part-time, but is hoping to go back to full-time study next semester. Julie was born in France and came to Australia when she was still a teenager to live with her now husband. In 2015, Julie and her husband relocated to the Sunshine Coast from South Australia where she had studied off and on for 12 years.

She is very involved in university life both as a part-time employee in the Academic Secretariat and the Faculty of Science, Health Education and Engineering, and as an active member of the executive board of the USC Environment Collective. Julie also volunteers with the Australian Marine Conservation Society 5 to 10 hours each month.

Kate Whitaker – in her 3rd year of a Bachelor of Business (Tourism, Leisure & Events), studying full-time, and with a GPA of 6.33. When she was 19, Kate travelled to Canada and the US for 12 months on her own.

It was during her time abroad that she decided she needed to do something to preserve the environment for future generations. Kate works in a newsagency and organises numerous fundraisers for various organisations including Destiny Rescue, UNICEF and the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge throughout the year.

Eliza Berry – 21 years of age and in her 3rd year of a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours), studying full-time and with a GPA of 6.21. Eliza left home at 18 to travel to Europe and the UK by herself. Whilst there, she worked in London and Edinburgh.

It was her desire to help people do the things that mattered to them that led her to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy. Eliza is currently employed as a Therapy Assistant with CPL (previously the Cerebral Palsy League), and her role there is to support Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapists. Living in Geebung, Eliza contributes to the community as a member of the Rotaract Club North Lakes and the State Emergency Services Redcliffe.
