The Sunshine Coast Business Council will host a forum with key stakeholders in the $2 billion hospital project next month, in a bid to maximise the opportunities it represents for the region. The forum follows confirmation that consortium Exemplar Health has been appointed to build and maintain the university hospital at Kawana. SCBC chair, Sandy Zubrinich, said the project was expected to generate an extra $3.4 billion for the region’s economy, in addition to the $2 billion cost of the facility, and represented a turning point for the Sunshine Coast. Ms Zubrinich said the forum on 8 August would aim to identify how investment in the hospital and health precinct could be captured over time for the advancement of the Coast and its economy.

“The regional council and Stockland are sponsoring the event and we have invited representatives from a range of industry sectors, the state government, Exemplar Health, the University and TAFE to participate,” she said.

“It is absolutely essential that we have an understanding of the potential flow on benefits for other industries and a unified strategy to maximise the immediate and long-term benefits for this region.”

Ms Zubrinich said the Business Council Board would also hold the first of its scheduled quarterly meetings with the Premier next month to discuss the detail of key issues affecting the region.
