Calling all genealogy devotees
For all of you family history enthusiasts out there - especially those of Finnish ancestry - the Beerwah Family History Group's next meeting may be just the place where you'll feel right at home.
That's because Beerwah resident Esma Rigby will be discussing her recently published book - From Finland to the Mangrove Mountains - at the meeting, which will take place on Wednesday June 22 at 9:30am at the Beerwah Library.
Caloundra City Mayor, Don Aldous, said Esma's talk will provide residents and visitors the opportunity to hear how the writer - by piecing together oral histories, archival records and Finnish newspaper articles - traced the stories behind Finnish migrants' journey to the Mangrove Mountains area on the central coast of New South Wales.
"This talk - organised by Beerwah Library - will give locals a unique opportunity not only to indulge their passion for genealogy but to also learn by example how to self publish their own research," Cr Aldous said.
Bookings aren't necessary for Esma's talk but to find out more, contact Beerwah Library [Peachester Road, Beerwah] on 5494 0221.
Anyone is welcome to attend the Beerwah Family History Group meetings, which take place at Beerwah Library on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
