Monday, May 8, 2006 Caloundra celebrates Local Government Week
Residents are invited to find out all that is great about local government during Caloundra City Council's annual Local Government Week celebrations 15-21 May.
Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said Local Government Week is a great opportunity for people to mix with their Council representatives and staff.
"Take a tour of a Council facility, enjoy a sausage sizzle and entertainment in the park, view displays at libraries and get your children to learn more about being waterwise through activities and competitions," Cr Aldous said. "It's always an interesting and enjoyable week and this year will be no exception."
The Beerwah Garden Expo on Friday 19 May, 9.30am - 1pm at Beerwah Community Hall, Peachester Rd, Beerwah, is Council's signature Local Government Week event so take time out to enjoy a whole morning of activities.
Don't miss Ross McKinnon, the Curator of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, who headlines a program of guest speakers. Ross describes himself as 'the original lazy gardener' and will be offering some very down-to-earth garden advice, sharing photos of his new home garden, and giving some tips on how to garden smarter. He will also talk about new plants that are being imported into Australia from Thailand.
The expo will also include botanical artists, orchid and bromeliad growers, bonsai, permaculture and native plant enthusiasts. There will be advice on everything from waterwise gardening to weed control. Take the opportunity to swap your 'weeds-for-trees'. Bring two shopping bags of weeds from your garden to receive one tree, or a garbage bag of weeds for two trees. Council projects and programs will be on display offering you the opportunity to get involved and have your say.
Don't forget, bookings for tours are essential! Contact the customer service centre on (07) 5420 8200.
