7 September 2006 Weed wipeout! Slaying the Singapore daisy
Caloundra City Council has begun the great weed wipeout with plans to slay the Singapore Daisy in Weedbuster Week, October 7 to 14.
Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said Council's Pest Management Team is offering local landholders the opportunity to have their Singapore daisy infestations treated for free during the 'Singapore Daisy Stamp-out' as part of Weedbuster Week.
"Singapore Daisy is a hard-to-kill invasive creeper that threatens to take over local gardens and native bushland," Cr Aldous said.
"To make matters worse, Singapore Daisy is very difficult to control."
To have your property treated for the Singapore Daisy, application forms are available from Council's Customer Service Centre, phone 5420 8200. Applications forms must be received by September 29, 2006. All applicants will be notified of the outcome.
The 'Caloundra Weed Wipeout' will see Council working with the community on a range of environmental weeding activities.
"Weeds are a serious issue and can wreak havoc on the environment. Being able to recognise the major weeds in your area is the first step in the war against weeds," Cr Aldous said.
