19 December 2006 Count down for biggest Carols event on the Coast
With only four days until the biggest Carols event on the Coast, Santa is busy making his list, and checking it twice to ensure no one misses out at the annual Carols on Kings celebration on Saturday.
Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said as well as the traditional carols, the event, which kicks off from 1pm also includes children's rides and amusements, street entertainment, face painting, and a spectacular fireworks display.
"This year we've focussed on bringing together a great line up of local talent supported by an impressive guest list that includes Australian Idol favourite Bobby Flynn, and the coast's own Lyndelle, New York soul sensation Lisa Hunt, and the ARIA charting artist Zia," Cr Aldous said.
The event will be hosted by local identities Livio Regano and Justin Veivers from Seven Local News, and Hot 91's Ronnie.
Divisional Councillor Tim Dwyer, who allocated $10,000 to the event, said the annual event grew in popularity each year.
"I am pleased to be part of this great family tradition, which has quickly established itself as the biggest Carols event on the Coast," Cr Dwyer said.
"Its great to see the local community get behind and support this event, which is expected to attract in excess of 8000 visitors and locals to Kings Beach on Saturday afternoon."
Councillors Smith, Wallace, O'Kearney and Singh also provided funding for this year's event.
A free shuttle bus service will operate from the bus interchange in Cooma Terrace, and disabled parking will be available in the Burgess St carpark.
The 2006 Carols on Kings is proudly sponsored by major sponsor Stocklands, corporate sponsor KC's Fireworks, and supported by local media partners Seven, Hot 91FM and the Sunshine Coast Daily.
*Manaia Puia is 5yrs old and has been singing for most of that time. Manaia has a few trophies behind her in the Qld Country Music Circuit and was recently the youngest grandfinalist at last month's Queensland Champion of Champions Country Music Competition in Brisbane. She enjoys all things that involve music and is currently learning to play mandolin.
Big sister Taylor Puia is 9 years old and is no stranger to the stage, from singing the national anthems for New Zealand and Australia to performing solo at Federation Square in Melbourne. This year she won the 2006 Juvenile Overall Country Music Rush at Jondaryan and several other country music competitions throughout Queensland.
Huge line up of talent expected to shine at carols event
Australian Idol sensation Bobby Flynn is expected to wow the audience when he takes to the stage for the annual Carols on Kings celebration next week.
Bobby will join with the Coast's very own Australian Idol Lyndelle, as well as international gospel and soul singer Lisa Hunt in what is expected to be the biggest Carols event on the coast ,next Saturday 23 December at Kings Beach Park, Caloundra.
Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said with more than 8000 people expected to attend, this year's event is shaping up to be the best yet.
"This year there is a real focus on first class family holiday entertainment. We've brought together a great line up of talent and local performers for what promises to be a fitting tribute to the festive season," Cr Aldous said.
Cr Aldous encouraged both locals and visitors down to the newly revamped Kings Beach Park for the event, which kick off at 1pm with children's rides and amusements, food stalls, street entertainment and face painting from 3pm, and live stage entertainment at 6pm.
Well known local identities Ronnie from Hot 91, together with Seven's Livio Regano and Justin Veivers will host the event, which will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display from 8.30pm.
Other performers include Aria club charting artist Zia, local community groups, bands, choirs and dancers, and of course a special guest appearance by the man in the red suit, Santa Claus.
A free park and ride bus service from the bus interchange will be available, and disabled parking is available in the Burgess St carpark.

Caloundra City Council's Carols on Kings. Great family fun. Sing along to all your favourite Christmas Carols. Bring your blanket and nibblies along and enjoy the entertainment! Performers include Australian Idol 'Lyndelle', local professional entertainers, community groups, schools, bands and choirs. There will be lots of children's activities and games, food outlets, glow sticks, fireworks and a visit by Santa Claus, HO HO HO!!!
A great FREE community event. Bring along your blanket along. Buses will be running from the Caloundra CBD to avoid parking congestions.
Venue: Kings Beach Amphitheatre, Kings Beach Park.

Have a hassle free night at Carols on Kings this Saturday by leaving the car at home or parking in the CBD and hopping on one of the free shuttle buses.
Roads will be closed and shuttle buses in operation for safety reasons and to help ease traffic congestion at the biggest Christmas carols event on the Coast.

So if possible, leave the car at home or park your car and take one of the regular shuttle buses leaving from the bus interchange at Cooma Terrace, starting at 2pm.
And if you plan to be in the Kings Beach area on Saturday, please remember that the Burgess Street and Ormond Terrace/Esplanade headland carpark will be closed from midnight until 10.30pm. Disabled parking and drop off will be available at the Burgess Street carpark during the event.
Motorists and residents are also reminded that the roads around the Park will be closed from 10am until 10.30pm. This includes:
• Princess Lane between Albert Street and the Esplanade
• De Vene Avenue between Moreton Parade and Ormond Terrace
• Ormond Terrace between the Esplanade and Edmund Street, Kings Beach.
