Celebrate Harmony Day in Maroochy
Maroochy has a multicultural and diverse community, with almost 18% of our community born overseas. This equates to over 60 different countries.
Harmony Day will be celebrated on Monday 21 March, a national day to celebrate our multiculturalism. Harmony Day corresponds with the United Nations International Day Against Racial Discrimination.
Activities planned in Maroochy for Harmony Day on Monday 21 March include:
English language students from the CSIT will tour the Maroochy Shire Council Chambers. Students will learn about the role of local government and the services provided by Maroochy Shire Council.
Join special guest Mal Meninga at the launch of Touring Photographic
Exhibition "Across the Coral Sea" based on historical images from the State Library of Queensland's John Oxley Library. The exhibition portrays the way in which South Sea Islanders arrived, lived and worked in Queensland in the nineteenth century.
Citizenship Ceremony - come and meet our new citizens at Nambour Civic Centre and find out about cultural organisations on the Sunshine Coast.
Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 March

Special Harmony Event - exciting performances, dance, stories, displays, craft demonstrations at the Nambour State High School, hosted by the Sunshine Coast Intensive English Unit.

For the month of March, Maroochy Shire Council is the Local Area Multicultural Partnership "Council of the Month". Go to the Local Government Association of Queensland website (www.lgaq.asn.au), click on the "Community" tab, "Cultural Diversity" tab, then select "Council of the month".
