International Women’s Day is recognised world-wide on 8th March, but here at the Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network we wanted to extend the celebrations and hold our event prior to official date so we can all take in more of the positivity, passion and inspiration over several days.
International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
This year’s IWD theme is Press for Progress #PressforProgress, encouraging everyone to press forward and progress gender parity. A strong call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.
We also like to celebrate those who have supported women to achieve, to dream, to realise their potential, whether this is other women, men, organisations or groups.
One great supporter of women and women’s health is our very special guest Samuel Johnson who is the 2018 Victorian Australian of the Year, awarded Australian actor and champion of Love Your Sister.
We are so thrilled to have Samuel join us and share his story, honouring his sister Connie and the promise he made to her.
The Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network invites women and men across the region to join us in this celebration of women’s achievements, gender parity and the all important reminder of self care, support networks and rising together.
Reserve your table
Our annual IWD events are extremely popular and we encourage you to book your tables of 10 with your friends as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
About Samuel Johnson
Samuel Johnson is originally known for his work on the small screen (The Secret Life of Us, Rush, Underbelly II, After the Deluge, and more), but has also has received nation-wide acknowledgement for his dedication to raising awareness to the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
After his sister, Connie Johnson, was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, Samuel became involved in Love Your Sister to encourage Australian Women to be more breast aware.
He also made Connie a promise to ride his unicycle around Australia in an effort to remind the nation of the likelihood, severity and support surrounding breast cancer. He has vowed to take leave from acting until he reaches the goal of raising $10million to fund breast cancer research.
Samuel’s dedication to the cause and his sister captured Australia’s hearts and he was recently awarded the 2018 Victorian Australian of the Year.
