'Cello Unpacked: Live @ The Factory
The innovative Live @ The Factory team is pleased to announce 'Cello Unpacked performed by internationally acclaimed 'cellist Louise King - a unique solo performance presenting an exciting selection of Australian New Music inspired by Australia's landscape, history and the influence of Western Art practices. This exciting concert will take place at 7:30pm on the 11th of November at the Cooroy Butter Factory.
The concert features a double bill of world premieres and a compelling performance of works by internationally renowned Australian composers including Ross Edwards, Peter Sculthorpe, Sarah Hopkins, Stephen Cronin, Stephen Leek, Michael Knopf and Leah Barclay.
English 'cellist, Louise King "exudes a vigorous artistry that surely appeals to a younger generation of music lovers and revelled in the broad sweep of emotions she was able to extract with such effect." (The Australian October 2004). Louise is an acclaimed and accomplished performer whose career highlights includes engagements with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and New London Soloists Orchestra. Since her migration to Australia in 2003, Louise performs as guest 'cellist with The Queensland Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sirius Ensemble, Sydney and new music group Topology and is passionate about presenting innovative quality music events to her new home, the Sunshine Coast. "Louise is a well-respected and acclaimed musician with a significant national profile whose work also enjoys international recognition. Her enthusiasm and desire to perform and pass on her joy in music-making is infectious." Dr. Stephen Cronin, Head of Composition, Queensland Conservatorium.
This unique event promises to display the virtuosic and rhapsodic nature of the cello - "a sound that composers have been drawn to for over four hundred years due to it's similarity to the human voice and it's ability to express and transcend human emotion" explains Louise. "This performance will be a culmination of twelve months research into Australia's new music for solo 'cello and I have chosen works for their expression of the Australian landscape or unique events in Australia's history such as the returning of Uluru to it's aboriginal owners. Unusual sounds unique to Australian music such as didgeridoo bowing, musical birdcalls and 'cello 'rapping' will feature in the performance." 'Cello Unpacked tickets available at Design Works Gallery 12 Maple Street Cooroy priced $20 ($15 concessions/members.) Ph: 54426677.
