After last year’s bumper sell-out event with over 250 people attending, this one is tipped to be THE St. Patrick’s Day event to go to off on the Sunshine Coast! Experience a fun afternoon of well-known celtic tunes, award-winning folk and youth orchestra performances and infectious driving rhythms that will get even your Granny’s toes tapping and your body jigging! This is an event not to be missed if you love live traditional folk music and relish the chance to strut your country-dance moves.

This year’s concert features a stellar line–up with some of Australia's most experienced and enthusiastic players of Celtic music. Brisbane’s Carisma – harp, flute and cello trio who are ABC classic recording artists, award-winning folk-duo Rhiannon & Monique fresh from winning awards at the National Folk Music Competition, Animato Strings from Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra, the foot-stomping Maleny Ceili Band and guest piper Mike MacDonald, Pipe Major from Noosa Pipe Band is opening the show. The Maleny Ceili Band will present a traditional Irish Céili (pronounced ‘cay-lee’) in the second half of the afternoon’s program.

Even if you’ve never danced before, the experienced dance caller, Davydd Macdonald, will lead you through the simple steps before letting you loose with the lively celtic music. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun and an experience for the whole family to enjoy. Eudlo-based professional musician Louise King said, “If you have always wondered what all the fuss was about with Celtic music come to this. It could open your eyes to the infectiousness of it. This music get’s you moving, swooning, jigging and heart-racing.”

“This is dance music, and the fun really happens when the dancers and players are together,” adds Nicole Murray, who leads the Maleny Céili Band. Nicole is an organiser of the Maleny Celtic Winter School, a not-for-profit local traditional folk music school held in June, which fosters local musicians, young and old, and encourages all skill levels in playing this community-based music.
