MALENY STEPS BACK IN TIME WITH CENTENARY OF ARMISTICE PARADE
Locals and visitors to Maleny have been invited to a re-enactment of the 1918 Maleny Victory Parade this Sunday [11 November].
One hundred years ago, the town’s streets came alive to celebrate the end of World War I and declaration of the Armistice.
Maleny RSL Sub Branch President Clarke Alexander said the re-enactment parade would be a tribute to those who have served in Australia’s armed forces.
“Around 200 men from this area fought in World War I. When it ended, the town came alive with a spontaneous celebration combining their excitement and relief,” Mr Booker said.
“On Sunday, we’ll bring that to life again with people dressed as World War I infantrymen, troops from the Light Horse Brigade, a cannon, vintage cars, floats and carriages, and local cadets with a replica of the HMAS Sydney built by the Maleny Men’s Shed.
“The parade will finish at Maleny RSL, just in time for the Remembrance Day service.”
