Climate Change - free public events
Acknowledging that climate change and its impacts are set to become one of the biggest threats to biodiversity and quality of life for generations, and in response to growing public concern, Noosa Council is hosting two very special events this month to empower its community to take action on climate change.
The first event will be a free public screening at The J, on March 20th, at 6.00 for a 6.30 pm start of Al Gore's Oscar winning documentary:  An Inconvenient Truth.
Widely acclaimed internationally, the film offers a passionate and inspirational look at the former Vice President's fervent crusade to halt global warming's deadly progress in its tracks, by exposing the myths and misconceptions surrounding it.  Although the screening is to be free, as seating will be limited please register your attendance by calling Council on 5449 5220.
The second sponsored event will be two presentations of the 'Climate Change Despair and Empowerment' Roadshow by Rainforest Information Centre Director Ruth Rosenhek and Centre founder John Seed.  By addressing the psychological and emotional issues surrounding global warming, the 90 minute Roadshow's specific aim is to motivate people to take action against climate change.   It will also reveal and discuss some of the false information and claims made by sceptics.
The first Roadshow is scheduled for the Cooroy Bowls Club at 6.45 pm for a 7.00 start on March 27th; the second session at The J in Noosa Junction at 6.45 for 7.00 pm on March 28th.  Again, seating will be limited and interested members of the public should register their attendance by contacting Council's Environmental Services Section on 5449 5220.
Council's Climate Protection Officer Kamal Singh reports a new community program will be unveiled at these public events, one that has been developed in partnership with the Caboolture Shire.  "The aim of the program will be to build the capacity of Noosa and Caboolture Shire householders to incorporate ecological sustainability into their lifestyles and take action on climate change," said Mr Singh.  "Hope to see you there."
