The trip is a joint venture between the AFL, Collingwood and the National Australia Bank under the National's AFL Rising Stars Program, which provides recognition, resources and practical support to grass roots football clubs around Australia and supports young Australians to realise their sporting dreams.

Whilst in Queensland Collingwood will conduct football clinics, coaching seminars and open training sessions at different venues on behalf of the National's AFL Rising Stars Program.

Collingwood Football Club President Eddie McGuire said:
"Collingwood is the biggest national sporting club in Australia and we enjoy tremendous support in Queensland.  We are delighted to assist the National's AFL Rising Stars Program to promote and support grass roots football and play a major role in growing the game around Australia.

In each of the past two years we have conducted community camps in the Northern Territory and the west of Sydney with great success. This camp is part of a range of programs that Collingwood operates each year in support of junior football. It also gives our players the chance to get away from the cold of the Melbourne winter and freshen up for the second half of the season.

The Brisbane Lions do a fantastic job in developing the game in Queensland and this is another way our club can inspire the stars of the future. It's one thing for kids to see their heroes on television and on the internet, it is quite another for them to meet and see them first hand."

Tim O'Leary, General Manager Corporate Affairs, Financial Services Australia, National Australia Bank continued:

"The National's AFL Rising Stars Program provides us with great opportunities to support grass roots football communities.  The National is delighted to join with the AFL and the Collingwood Football Club in promoting football and supporting the development of local clubs in Queensland.

We hope that promoting the National's Rising Stars AFL Program to talented young QLD footballers will demonstrate to them that through hard work they can aspire to play football at the highest level."

Andrew Demetriou, AFL General Manager Football Operations said

"The AFL has been working closely with clubs to recognise football's grassroots and to help connect people with football at the elite level. It is important all young players no matter where they are located throughout Australia have the opportunity to meet and be inspired by AFL footballers.

The National's AFL Rising Stars Program is a vital support to grass roots football and it is pleasing to see Collingwood continuing to take the initiative and play a major role in promoting football around Australia."
