Sinatra -- "Live at the Sands"
The Sands Tavern Maroochydore anyway. In 1966 Francis Albert Sinatra, "Ol Blue Eyes", recorded a live concert at the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Backed by Count Basie and his orchestra and conducted by a then young (33) Quincy Jones, the album went on to become a classic live recording by Sinatra in his prime.
SCREAM -- (Sunshine Coast Retired and Ex Armed Forces Musicians), featuring renowned local singers Alan Winter and Tanya McFadyen are about to bring their distinctive Big Band sound to music lovers around the Sunshine Coast. The band, consisting of ex Armed Forces and other local professional musicians is set to provide a "feast" of swing classics, Latin numbers and ballads, sure to tantalise everyone's musical tastebuds.
Music Director for the band, Charlie Simm said. "Membership of The Big Band is by invitation only, and this has resulted in producing a band of the highest calibre musicians in South East Queensland. That they come from as far afield as Gympie and north Brisbane suburbs is testament to their desire to be part of this unique band. The fact that we've ended up in the "Sands" at Maroochydore is purely coincidental but it does add a certain "atmosphere" to the performance".
Singer Alan Winter, often referred to as the Coast's "Mr Sinatra" stated that "We're not trying to emulate Frank's "Sands" show, in fact we had the show planned long before we realised the "Sands" connection. Nor is it about the musical works Sinatra made famous, but a tribute to the wonderful music written over an incredible era of musical growth. With hits made famous by the likes of Sinatra, Bobby Darin and Tony Bennett, and recently revitalised by Michael Buble, we've a wealth of material to work with. I'm excited we've talked Tanya out of retirement to join me. She's a joy to work with and has a wonderful voice."
With a lineup that features hits such as "Sway", "New York New York" "All of Me" "A Day in the Life of a Fool" and many more classics from the various popular styles, the band is certain to touch a "chord" with everyone.
The season will kick off with a show at The Sands Tavern, Plaza Parade, Maroochydore on Saturday 14th August 7.30pm at a cost of $15. Doors open at 6pm and meals are available until 9.30. Seating is limited to around 200, so patrons will need to book early to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be purchased at "Shake it Up Music" at Nambour or in the Maroochydore area by phoning 5443 9709. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door on the night.
