Tuesday 8 November 2005 News In Brief - Community Tree Plantings
Caloundra City residents are being invited to lend a hand with two community tree plantings planned early next month.
The first planting is at Durundur Bushland Park, from 8am on Saturday 3 December. Council recently secured a grant through the Western Catchments Group to carry out environmental weed control and revegetation in this park.
The 40 hectare reserve, located off MacDonalds Road, Peachester, protects the headwaters of the London Creek and Stanley River catchments, and contains a mix of rainforest, eucalyptus woodland and open pasture, as well as significant species including the Giant Barred and Cascade Tree frogs, and a resident flying fox colony.
The reserve can be accessed via the easement at the end of Elsa Court, off Bald Knob Road.
The second planting is at the park on South River Drive, Mooloolah, on Sunday 4 December from 8am.
The planting will add to the existing vegetation that fringes the South Mooloolah River and increase habitat values for birds, mammals, invertebrates and frogs, including threatened species, the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly and Giant Barred Frog.
Participants in both events are asked to wear a hat and sturdy footwear, and bring drinking water. A free morning tea will be supplied at the conclusion.
