Community Water Campaign coming to Tewantin
The Community Water Campaign is coming to Tewantin markets, at the Noosa Harbourside Marine, this Sunday 29 August, from 8am to 2pm.
Major Projects Councillor Debbie Blumel invites the local community to come along to the stall on Sunday to learn about the sustainable alternative to big water grids and dams.
"As water becomes increasingly expensive, the business as usual approach to urban water is being questioned by everyone who receives a water bill," Cr Blumel said.
"Very few people support the construction of a desalination plant at Marcoola and big water grids that pump water over long distances. Most of us understand that the cost of traditional heavy engineering solutions to water is ultimately foisted onto individual households, businesses and sporting groups.
"That's why I recently started the Community Water Campaign in the weekend markets around the Sunshine Coast.
"The campaign is generating community and business understanding of a safe, affordable and sustainable approach to water.
"The campaign volunteers are providing information, dispelling myths and collecting signatures on petitions to both the State and Local Governments.
"Our aim is to build a solid constituency of informed people who will demand the more affordable and sustainable water technologies.
"We don't have to wait for an emissions trading scheme to take constructive action on climate change. Innovative community technologies, such as the Ridges rooftop rainwater harvesting and beneficial re-use project, are being worked up right now and will service thousands of homes."
