It only happens once a year, and it’s only a week away.
October 20 will see thousands heading to Coolum State School for the 20th annual twilight event, and it continues to attract strong support from North Shore businesses. This celebration is also part of the centenary celebrations at Coolum State School this year, and from being a ‘school community’ event, this celebration will draw the young and the young at heart as they descend on the school for their local taste of a fairground fix.
One of those businesses is the Marcoola Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank, who has once again put their weight behind the event and the school as major sponsor. Community Bank Branch manager, Kerryn Vincart said the carnival continues to encapsulated Coolum’s community spirit.
“As locals we all know it’s a really big event. It’s important for the kids, the family and most of all, the school as this is their big fund raiser for the year - and the whole community gets involved. If you haven’t been before, you really should see why we all love coming back every year,” Kerryn said.
“I think all North Shore locals continue to have a soft spot for the carnival. It’s great to enjoy the rides, stalls, food and fireworks in such a safe, family friendly atmosphere. The fact that it starts in the afternoon and finishes at a time reasonable for families is another reason why Coolum Carnival become known as one of the area’s leading community celebrations.
“Our Community Bank branch is delighted to be lending its support again this year, and if you haven’t been to the ‘Pig Brother’ stall make sure you get along - it’s a crowd favourite,” Kerryn added.
In the next week, the entire school community will combine to help out in creating what is a massive temporary show ground for the many show bag and food and drink stalls and entertainment stages that will sit alongside a sideshow alley that is comparable to any Brisbane show.
School principal, Pat Cavanagh said the best Coolum Carnival experience starts at 8.30pm, when the crowd favourite brilliant fireworks display will bring a close to the celebrations at 8.30pm.
“The Carnival is very fortunate to have again receive fantastic support from the many and varied businesses in our community. We have all sorts of great prizes on offer this year and some other special attractions include piglet racing on the hour, MIX FM's drive show on site, pony rides, Inflatable Darts and Smoothie Bikes. Old favourites such as Pig Brother, Catch a Yabby, animal nursery & mini golf will be there and entertainment goes from 3.30pm.
“I want to thank Kerryn and the Bendigo Bank team though. They’ve sponsored us for many years and the support of Bendigo and all the other local businesses ensures a successful event for all sectors of the community. Funds from this year’s event will go towards assisting with the cost of the school’s centenary celebrations”, he concluded.
Other major sponsors include: Yaroomba Beach, Coolum Beach Bowls Club, PRD Nationwide, Dentistry on Coolum, Ken Mills Toyota, Coolum Surf Club, Richardson & Wrench, Coolum Soil and Stone Factory.
The fun starts when the gates open at 3:30pm next Friday, October 20 at Coolum State School on School Road, Coolum Beach. For more information or to volunteer your services, contact the school on 5471 9300.
