Over in the hills west of Noosa, far away from the bustle, is the quaint little town of Cooran. Nestled in one of the many valleys it has an early history which has been rich in activity and community.
One of the oldest buildings in the Noosa Shire is the Cooran Memorial School of Arts Hall. In its day the central hub for social gatherings and important meetings, it remains today a pivotal centre for the arts, and community groups.
The old hall has seen many upgrades to its’ interior; and now- due to the hard work and diligence of local individuals, boasts a brand new sound & lighting system, and new de-mountable stage. For any who doubt the prudent allocation of grants in the community this has definitely been money well-spent.
It is generally known that music & sound play a significant part in our lives. Travelling along with the history of the hall, and now in to its’ 28th year, is the Cooran Acoustic Night. This iconic little event, run by volunteers, enjoys the magnificent acoustics of the 110 year old hall. Within the aged timber structure, singers, musicians, actors and artists are able to share their talents with the audience. A VERY BIG ‘Thank You’ to the Cooran Memorial School of Arts Inc., for the contribution of their time in obtaining the grant, & Shake-It-Up Music for giving such a great deal on the sound system.
The Cooran Acoustic Night welcomes all acts, and is open to all who wish to perform, from amateurs to professionals.
Cooran hall is in King Street, Cooran. Doors open @7pm; be there by 6.30pm to get your name on the blackboard. $4 entry, Kids free. This is an alcohol free event. Facebook: Cooran Acoustic Night.
