About Ernest Sirolli
Ernesto Sirolli is Italian born, has worked for over 30 years in Australia, Europe, Africa, New Zealand, the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom in local economic development. In 1984, he pioneered an innovative and successful approach to local development, based on facilitating the transformation of good local ideas into viable businesses.
Dr Sirolli passionately challenges conventional economic development with Enterprise Facilitation and continues to attract international attention for its dramatic departure from the conventional approaches adopted in development, and its strong focus on a grassroots, person-centred approach. Founder of the Sirolli Institute and author of Ripples from the Zambezi, a chronological history of Enterprise Facilitation, Ernesto engages audiences with his profound message of hope. The Sirolli Institute is dedicated to teaching civic leaders how to effectively transform individual passion and community activism into rewarding and sustainable local businesses.
Since 1985, the Sirolli Institute has demonstrated that the provision of caring, competent, dedicated advice and support to entrepreneurs is as important as the development of physical infrastructures to the development of a stable and successful economy. Using the Sirolli Method and the Trinity of Management, communities around the world have unlocked their own local capacity for increased economic and community growth.
Enterprise Facilitation®
The Enterprise Facilitation concept was pioneered in Esperance Western Australia in 1984. Mr Barrie Stearne who has contributed to the success of the program as a volunteer since inception states: "We are proud to say almost 800 businesses - or 60 per cent of the entrepreneurs we met - are still running successful, sustainable operations and have contributed more than $190 million in revenue to the local economy. We have averaged almost 40 new business start ups a year consistently in the last 20 years, which is quite a track record given Esperance has a population of just 13,500 people."
