Local restaurant owners have combined to bring the inaugural Culture Shock Food Festival event to the Sunshine Coast’s Maroochydore. The weekend of Friday 16 September till Sunday 18 September will see an array of events take place within five host restaurants Arnica, The Boat Shed, Benkii, Lefty’s and Still Water.

The aim of the event is to showcase the Maroochydore region, from Duporth Avenue to Cotton Tree Esplanade, as a Food and Wine mecca and bring attention to the many varied businesses that call this area home.

Karen Doane, Communications Manager of Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd (SCDL) said the Festival will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the cultures present in the diverse dining precinct of Maroochydore, through a culinary display of food and wine.

"This type of event provides another reason for visitors to come to the Sunshine Coast to enjoy our hospitality and sample the culture and food we enjoy serving up. We encourage locals and visitors to support the Festival, so it can grow as an annual culture shock feast on our calendar," she said.

One of the organisers of the Culture Shock Food Festival and Chef of Arnica, Michael Torchia said it is hoped the festival will become a key event for Maroochydore and the Sunshine Coast . “The Culture Shock Food Festival provides an opportunity to celebrate and showcase the culinary skills and diversity of cuisine unique to our region. Maroochydore is ideally located at the centre of the Sunshine Coast and we want to grow this Festival into an iconic event featured on the Sunshine Coast calendar annually,” he said.

The Festival will kick off with uniquely themed lunches to be held at each of the participating restaurants on Friday 16 September. One of the highlights of the weekend is the hosted progressive dinner, RiverWalk, being held on the Saturday evening. Guests will be treated to a five course meal with matching wines and beverages as they make their way from restaurant to restaurant enjoying a course unique to each restaurant’s style. Commencing at 6pm each hosted group will be treated to a celebration of cultural diversity.

Culture Shock Sunshine Coast will culminate on Sunday 18 September when all five chefs meet at the one location for the Culture Shock Long Lunch. Featuring a banquet style menu this event will commence at 12.30pm and is being held outside Arnica (weather permitting) at the Platinum Building, Duporth Avenue Maroochydore. Tickets are $65 per head.
