PROGRAM FOR THE J'S 'ONE YEAR CELEBRATION'
Thu 1st Nov David Knopfler
7.30pm Start for 8.30pm start, licensed event $20/ $17 presale
Founding member of Dire Straits
Simply beautiful and for one night only!
A gorgeous blend of haunting melodies with a distinct Dire Straits sounding voice is completed with perfect singer songwriter arrangements
Founder of Rock group Dire Straits, David has subsequently faithfully pursued his own musical vision, writing and producing his own compositions on ten solo CDs to date.
Knopfler has been fortunate enough to reach a wide audience without compromising his art and while he's enjoyed the respect and admiration of his musical peers, widespread critical acclaim, international awards and worldwide chart successes, has managed, in his own country, Britain, to keep a profile so low as to be nearly invisible. He lives quietly in the English countryside, notching up an impressive list of writing credits.
A regular panelist at music conventions, this once-married family man is a lifelong member of organizations like Amnesty International and Adopt a Minefield, David has always made uncompromising life choices: "I don't regard what I do as remotely glamorous. I write, record and perform my music because I completely love doing it and despite any so called celebrity status that sometimes comes with the job."
Ship of Dreams, co-produced with Harry Bogdanovs (Westerhagen) features guest appearances by Chris Rea and Alan Clark (Dire Straits) amongst others. Released globally through a variety of independent labels.
The album's cover features a painting generously supplied by Scotland's most successful living artist, Jack Vettriano
As well as having produced a clutch of underscores for film and TV projects, David's first book of poetry entitled Blood Stones and Rhythmic Beasts was recently released by Blackwing Books.

THE J'S FIRST BIRTHDAY
With its volatile auditorium, lounge, beautiful recreational areas, meeting and workshop spaces the J has been designed as a space where ideas and generations can converge.
Over the last year the J staged over 170 exciting shows for various age groups and almost 200 workshops catering mainly for young people. Buddhist monks from Tibet showered the J with their presence, as have acts like Australian Idols Bobby Flynn and Dan England, Monsieur Camembert, Clive James, John Bell, Kate Miller-Heidke, The Atlantics, Beau Young, the OKA Boys and many more.
Close to 25000 people have come through the j's doors in the first year to attend a great variety of activities including concerts, performing art events, conferences, seminars, functions, debutant balls, school holiday programs or community events like NAIDOC week, National Youth week and Shout Out Loud.
One can honestly say that the J is not only a great and safe Youth and Community Centre but also a progressive, high tech state of the art entertainment space offering a vast alternative artistic program. The even better news is that the j doesn't seem to be slowing down at all. Even though the program for the next 12 months is just in its early planning stages it already looks fantastic. National Seniors, Youth and NAIDOC Week, school holiday programs, exciting workshops and great music: World Music @the j has proved to attract an ever growing crowd, thus has become a fixed date on every first Saturday of each month. The love of jazz and theatre never seems to expire and the J has managed to sign contracts with excellent artists like Aaron Goldberg Trio from New York, 'Critical Stages' a Kings Cross Theatre Company and the David Williamson play 'traveling north'. The best cure is always a great laugh and thanks to the return of 'The Melbourne Comedy Festival' Noosa can stay healthy.
The J is a safe and friendly venue where not only young people but the whole Community can collaborate and indulge in their creative pursuits. Does this sound like the J is everything to everyone? Well, maybe it is. The wonderful program The J has come up with to celebrate its birthday beautifully reflects exactly that.
COMMUNITY SHOW DAY A THE J
The J 'Youth and Community Centre' will celebrate its first birthday on the 3rd of November in style with a massive Community Show Day. Local performers will fill the j with laughter, culture, song, dance and music.
The J has invited performers, community groups and school groups to perform for its first birthday and the feedback has been amazing. It looks like everybody loves the j and as a result a pretty impressive street performance- and theatre / hall program has evolved.
On stage we will see some of Noosa's best performers: Theatre performances by NDS and incredibly funny Commedia by students of internationally renown coach Toni Kishawi, who might even throw in a few improvisations himself. Another major highlight of the day on the big stage will be an extraordinary performance by Batari, a contemporary Japanese Taiko ensemble just before lunchtime. Once again the Lightworkers Hip Hop and Breakdance performance will leave audiences puzzled due to what looks like their complete lack of gravity and the dance group of Tewantin State School is training even more right now for their performance. There will definitely be no shortage of fantastic music thanks to bands like Pantastic steel band, the Jazz factory, Sunshine Beach High Schools' Jazz ensemble and the Steiner strings ensemble.
The street program will see a series of performances by local heroes, singers and songwriters. Just to mention a few: Kate Gibson, Lucas Tranchitella, Josie Cubis, Scott Estrich and many more.
If that doesn't sound exciting enough there will be a massive blow up Twister to get great knots in arms and legs, face painting
The whole day runs from 10 am till 3 pm and all events are free of charge.
So come on in, celebrate with us and have a great day at your Community centre.

We're big now!
Well almost… It's the first Birthday of the J and that deserves a big party night! Wild Marmalade from Byron Bay and local heroes OKA will join forces to rock your body and feed your soul. Supported by Audio Shaman they play The J on Saturday November 3rd from 8pm.
Byron Bay's International drum 'n didj sensations Wild Marmalade have been creating waves across the globe, working with Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas and Montreal and playing the biggest nightclub in the world Privilege for Manumission. Blending the ancient sounds of the didgeridoo with grooves of the present, Wild Marmalade feature two of Australia's hottest drummers and one of the best didgeridoo players in the world. Creating a musical intensity usually only heard from electronic music, their sound is organic and live, with no effects or sequencers. Every sound you hear is created by the musicians. This will be Wild Marmalades' first show since returning from their fourth tour of Japan, rocking festivals, concert halls, huge outdoor raves and ancient shrines. Their high energy shows uplift audiences with their display of powerful, joyous and infectiously danceable music.
With their energetic and musically diverse performances OKA have earned a worldwide reputation as a must see act. Now they are back at the j by popular demand with their new album: "Half Lazy, Half Crazy" OKA create a distinctive fusion of cultures by blending the fluid sounds of the 'slide didge' with live electronic beats, turntables, world percussion, woodwinds and slide guitar - an explosive fusion of organic world sounds and modern electronica.
After having toured through Japan and Canada the OKA boys can't wait to get the locals dancing at the j again.
Proudly supporting the co-headlining acts are "Audio Shaman". Under their guitar lies a bed of ambient and lounge production while their music stylishly moves from Middle Eastern and Latin sound scapes to more familiar western sounds of Ambient and hip hop beats. Audio Shamans music has been featured on a large array of compilation albums including Cafe del mar, Ministry of Sound and Art of Zen.
To make the night even more special VJ James Muller / Earth Based productions will create his live projections on the big screen and lighten souls with his fantastic visuals.
Wild Marmalade, OKA and Audio Shaman bring their distinctive sounds to The J in Noosa Junction on Saturday 03 November. 7pm for an 8pm start and tickets for this once in a lifetime licensed event are only $20.
A progressive entertainment space, The J in Noosa Junction leads the Sunshine Coast in providing a high tech, state of the art, sound proof venue offering a vast alternative artistic program.
