The Referendum Question is:
Should a Noosa Shire Council be created by the de-amalgamation of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council local government area, with the costs to be met by the Noosa Shire Council?
Noosa residents have less than four weeks to decide whether they wish to de-amalgamate from the current SCRC and return to having their own local Noosa council. Last year NRRA surveyed its members and the broader community and found that between 65-70% supported de-amalgamation. Around a further 15% of those surveyed at that time felt they may support it if the costs were not excessive. Recently a random sample of residents surveyed by the University of the Sunshine Coast revealed that 38% of respondents indicated they would require “more information to make an informed judgement” (see attached press release).
So, respecting the diverse views of members and in the interests of providing balanced information, please see below the range of links to articles and reports which outline various de-amalgamation issues in some detail.
